Scientology Quotes:
"It is despicable and utterly beneath contempt to tell a man he must repent, that he is evil" (Professional Auditor Bulletin [PAB] #31, 23 July 1954).
"Hell is a total myth, an invention just to make people unhappy and is a vicious lie" (PAB #130, 15 Feb. 1958). |
GROUP NAME: The Church of Scientology
FOUNDER: L. Ron. Hubbard
Born: March 13, 1911
Died: January 24, 1986
MEMBERS:
SACRED WRITINGS: Writings by L. Ron Hubbard have officially been considered "Scripture"
SCIENTOLOGIST VIEWS
GOD: Hubbard seemed to hold to some view of a higher being but obviously did not hold to a personal God view. God is irrelevant in Scientology. One can not believe in God at all to be a Scientologist.
THE TRINITY: N/A
JESUS CHRIST: They do not hold Christ to much of a higher standard then anyone else such as Buddha, Gandhi etc. They would claim that the church made him to seem greater then He is. Some call him an "Operating Thetan" (OT); someone who is aware of his abilities and true nature.
HOLY SPIRIT: N/A
VIRGIN BIRTH: N/A
SALVATION: Scientologists believe that we have no need for a Saviour. They do teach though that the brain is divided into portions. The reactive mind (basically the sub-conscious) and the analytical mind.
Within the reactive mind are things called "engrams". Engrams are painful or negative things that have happened in this life or a past life. Engrams are to blame on irrational behaviour.
There are a number of steps one can go through (somewhat expensive steps) to help rid people of these "engrams". It is called auditing. People are basically hocked up to a crude lie detector machine (electropsychometer). They ask a series of questions that is supposed to unbury these buried experiences. The goal of this is to erase the engrams from the reactive mind, which means the person can become more rational. The person supposedly reaches the state of "Clear" once they get rid of all the engrams in their reactive mind. Dianetics is the end result.
HEAVEN: They do not hold to the Biblical view of heaven. They basically believe once a person can reach this "clear" state that means they can do a number of things at a higher level like imagine, recall, create, perceive etc. It is also taught that a person that is "clear" will have a dramatic increase in their I.Q. They can reach different levels of clear which actually eventually causes problems but that can be looked at in future publications.
HELL: The Biblical hell does not exist in their eyes.
SIN: They do not hold to sin in the biblical view. They believe it is just falsehood and things that oppose Scientological teaching. They believe that humans are actually inwardly good. They believe that every human and creature has a Thetan. A thetan is basically an immortal spirit, that enters a body upon birth and departs and finds another body upon death. It is a form of re-incarnation and the person's thetan never dies.
INSPIRATION/AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE: They consider the Bible as one of the world's searches, but overall is quite irrelevant to them.
THE RAPTURE: N/A
SECOND COMING: A misunderstanding taken from Buddhism. |
