Gen 15:17 When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.

The name of this Apologetics blog came from reading chapter 15 in the book of Genesis.

The term smoking fire pot or furnace represented in Deuteronomy 4:20 the land of Egypt. It represented afflictions and troubles. It represents the trials and troubles that can be placed on God’s people (Is. 48:10). The Jews while in the land of Egypt were as if they were in a burning pot. In darkness, not able to see the end of their slavery.

While the torch is a symbol of the majesty of God. How he could appear as a pillar of fire to the Israelites as they were led through the wilderness. Also when a covenant was made, the makers would pass between the pieces of the offering (Jer. 34:18). In Genesis 15 God had made a covenant with Abraham, and as the Flaming torch represents God, we see Him passing through the covenant; a promise that can never be broken.

The reason for the name though for this blog is to represent us Christians today. We are as the flaming pot/torch, in that we are full of sin, lost, separate from God, in a world of sin, and also deserving hell for all eternity, no way to get out on our own. Yet because of the Flaming torch; the light of the world – Christ. We are now being guided through this world, until the day comes where we enter the promised home which is heaven.

Psa 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Joh 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
